Indian Psychiatric Society – A.P State branch is an association of mental
health Professionals residing or working in the state of Andhra Pradesh
which is a branch of the parent body Indian Psychiatric Society. It is
formed under the Zonal Branch Indian Psychiatric society South zonal branch.
It was formed in the year 1981. Its main objectives are to contribute to
the overall development of mental health services in the state of Andhra
Pradesh.
To fulfill its objectives it organizes one Annual conference every year in
the month of July and one Continuing Medical Education Program every year in
the month of February. To promote Psychiatry among the medical students, it
conducts quiz competition for undergraduate students of Andhra Pradesh
during the annual conference and quiz for post graduate Psychiatry students
of Andhra Pradesh along with Continuing Medical Education Program.
For promoting mental health in the community society thru its members
conducts various mental health awareness programs , free service camps,
mainly during the mental health week (4th to 10Th October) every year. Many
of its members publish mental health articles in news papers and magazines.
some of the members are giving talks on radio and TV.
Any person who has post graduate Degree or diploma recognized by Medical
Council of India or A.P. state Government ( M.D/D.N.B/D.P.P) can apply for
regular life member of the society. Non psychiatry medical professionals
(MBBS / Diploma or Degree in other medical specialties) or post graduate
degree holders of non medical mental health professionals ( M.Phil or P.hd
in clinical Psychology / M.Phil or P.hd in Psychiatric social work/ M.sc
Psychosocial rehabilitation or related mental health workers registered with
Rehabilitation Council of India ) can apply for Associate membership of
society. Presently as on April 2011 there are 230 regular life members and
20 associate members.
